Chitwan National Park

Chitwan National Park is Nepal’s premier wildlife destination and one of the best places in South Asia for birdwatching and jungle safaris. Established in 1973 and recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984, the park covers 952.63 square kilometers of tropical forests, grasslands, wetlands, and river systems in southern Nepal.

The park is home to an incredible diversity of wildlife, including the endangered One-horned Rhinoceros, Bengal Tiger, Asian Elephant, Sloth Bear, Leopard, Wild Boar, Spotted Deer, Sambar Deer, Gaur, and Gharial Crocodile. Chitwan is also a paradise for birdwatchers, with more than 650 recorded bird species. Highlights include Great Hornbill, Lesser Adjutant, Bengal Florican, Grey-headed Fish Eagle, Kingfishers, Woodpeckers, Barbets, Bee-eaters, and numerous migratory waterbirds.
